Welcome Note From

Chair, Team Brisbane (Local Host Committee)

Brisbane is a city on the move, a city whose story is all about growth.  There is so much going on and we are looking forward to sharing it all with you when EVOLVE 2019 is held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, 31 March – 2 April next year.

Over the next five years, the city is on a fast trajectory of infrastructure development – a second runway that will double Brisbane’s capacity, putting us alongside Hong Kong and Singapore; the Queen’s Wharf world class tourism and leisure precinct in the heart of the CBD with four new hotels, 50 bars, restaurants and shopping; revitalisation of the iconic Howard Smith Wharves; and state-of-the-art transport with Cross River Rail and Brisbane Metro.

Brisbane has also recently celebrated a host of hotel openings – Novotel Brisbane South Bank, the five star Emporium Hotel South Bank and W Brisbane, with the Westin due to open later this year.

Your local Host Committee for the conference has one objective – to deliver all delegates, exhibitors and sponsors the very best conference ever.  This includes savouring the bold tastes and flavours of Queensland. The Centre’s long and passionate advocacy for fresh local produce, supporting our farmers and producers, allows visitors to ‘eat local’.

Mindful and sustainable eating carries right through to the Centre’s support of the local community and waste reduction.  The Centre has had a long and rewarding partnership with Australia’s largest hunger relief agency, Foodbank and in addition to supplying meals daily, excess food is also donated, totalling more than 140,000 meals to date to those in need.  Any food not suitable for Foodbank goes to our organic food waste dehydrator which turns the waste into a nutrient-rich biomass used as a soil enhancer – completing the food circle.

Brisbane itself has the reputation as a clean green city with a strong commitment to the environment with Brisbane City Council taking the lead and achieving its goal of becoming a carbon neutral organisation.

With so much on offer it is an exciting time to be visiting Brisbane and we extend a very warm welcome to everyone – come visit our city and have some fun with us.
